State-of-The-Art Laboratory at Unoa D&B Primary and JSS

CBC Making Children Happier and Stress-Free

Unoa Primary School is located in Wote Location in Makueni Constituency within Makueni County and is a mixed day & Boarding Primary and Junior Secondary School. The school has the highest population in the county and one of selected primary schools which host Junior Secondary schools.

The Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) was launched in Kenya by the Ministry of Education in 2017 where The Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) fronted it as the system to replace 8-4-4. The idea was to bring up holistic students who are critical thinkers and creators for a better nation in the years to come.

At Unoa, children are currently enjoying integrated science subject through the courtesy of the principal Madam Sila, Board of Management and Parents. Inside the school lie a state-of-the-art science laboratory where the JSS students enjoy their practicals.

“Unoa JSS students have the highest happiness index thanks to CBC. Now the students are not stressed by exams, and the assessment given is friendlier, CBC Making Children Happier and Stress-Free.” Said Madam Sila

The government through the Ministry of Education is keen on the implementation of the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) to ensure that every learner access quality basic education.

The Ministry has since 2012 pursued broad education reforms to ensure that all children access quality basic education in line with the requirements of the Kenya Constitution (2010) and Basic Education Act (2013).

The CBC is geared towards nurturing every learner’s potential, and also the 21st century demands citizens who are multi skilled. The new system seeks to produce a child with relevant competences to thrive in a rapidly changing world.

Speaking on Monday during the opening of the laboratory, the JSS Chairman, Mr. Daniel Kisyanga said that he is very happy and always passionate on child success. He applauded the principal for her exemplary leadership; however, he requested the government to support the school with more funds to equip the laboratory for efficient and effective services.

The BoM chairperson Lilian Mulatya said that they will give the principal the support that seeks to nurture the potential of each learner.

“When the story of Unoa is written some of us will find our names at the appendix. Let’s work together so that under the Ms Sila’s tenure and under her watch we can say that we should do everything to put the Unoa child in the center of our focus and our target and we did everything possible to transform the school,” said Ms Mulatya.
