Effective institutions are the backbone of sustainable development — they enable accountability, foster inclusive participation, and drive coordinated delivery of social and economic programs. In Makueni County, however, many community-based organizations (CBOs), youth groups, and even local institutions face challenges such as limited governance capacity, weak coordination frameworks, low resource mobilization skills, and inadequate mentorship. These gaps hinder their ability to effectively implement projects, engage citizens, and influence policy outcomes.
PTD Kenya’s Institutional Effectiveness thematic area was designed to bridge this gap by strengthening organizational systems, leadership competencies, and governance structures of grassroots institutions. The goal is to build a resilient local ecosystem of capable and accountable organizations that can plan, manage, and sustain impactful programs in line with Kenya’s development agenda and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
