What we do
Youth Empowernment
'We cannot always build the future for our youth, but we can build our youth for the future.'
PTD provides mentoring in an environment which is a safe space for our mentees. As can be seen in our Impact Stories, we build a level of trust and respect with our mentees and help them to develop themselves personally, professionally, and socially. Our holistic approach to mentoring means that we do not focus solely on one facet of the mentee’s life, we encompass a range of matters.
We encourage individuals to be themselves, but we aim to provide the guidance and support that is required to help them understand, and fundamentally, realise their potential. We introduce our young people to things that they may not have been exposed to before to give them the opportunities to learn and try new things.
Social Wellbeing and Gender Equity
Youth unemployment and lack of opportunities has substantial negative social implications and can lead to health, mental and other challenges that prevent young people from enjoying their rights. Beyond the individual level, it affects the prosperity, stability and equality within a society and the nations sustainable development. This has disproportionally affected the different genders. Discriminatory gender norms and stereotypes, widespread discrimination and gender-based inequalities create pervasive obstacles to the realization of girls and young women’s rights.
Women Empowerment and Just Governance
As guided by our mission of building confidence, raising self- esteem and empowering the communities, women form the central pillar for our operations. PTD provides a platform that enable women to have a feminist perspective on a range of issues related to rural development and reconstruction, with a special focus on Women’s rights and entitlements.
Child protection and Education
PTD has developed child protection programs aimed at preventing children from retrogressive cultural practices through education programs awareness. With collaboration with local communities through dialogue and community workshops, parents have been sensitized on cultural practices such as early marriages and also PTD has been involved in development of policies aimed at empowering communities.
With collaboration with partners, we collaborate with local communities on development programs such as hygiene programs in concentrated camps, thereby significantly decreasing children mortality. Our children rights campaign is also geared towards ensuring crucial children needs such as immunization, registration of children at birth are effectively done.
Skills Training and Economic Empowerment
PTD believes in showing people how to change their lives instead of having to rely on others. We believe in providing long term solutions to poverty through giving skills that can provide sustainable incomes. Our greatest challenge is providing the financial support needed to start up in business.
Through business and skills training, we provide women with the opportunity to create and expand businesses in areas such as chicken farming, agriculture, small shops and handcrafts.
