Food Security & Livelihood

This programme seeks to increase the incomes of households within the ASAL regions of Makueni County by facilitating better access, control and management of available community resources. In particular, the programme focuses on micro enterprise development for livelihood diversification and food security.

On agriculture, PTD trains community members on how to farm different crops and establish kitchen gardens and tree planting. On the other hand, capacity building of farmers and equip community members with skills to manage livestock and poultry farming.

PTD has experts who advice the members of the community on how to engage in viable Income Generating Activities (IGAs). PTD also aid the community group access credit services with ease.

Money is often scarce, and if it is not used well, family suffers and businesses collapse. For example, if a parent spends money on alcohol, drugs, or just their own needs and wishes, the rest of the family, may suffer. It is very important for parents to have an open discussion with each other about how to best use the family’s resources including income from business. Sometimes, couples may need to discuss changes in their own lifestyles so that they can invest in their business and also meet their daily household needs. A couple needs to have open, positive attitudes during these discussions. These open discussions can help families solve money problems together.
