Unleashing Youth Potential to Grow, Lead and Transform
On 13th December 2025, Kitise Kithuki Professionals (KKP) successfully hosted the Mega Youth Mentorship Programme at Kitise Secondary School, bringing together over 180 youths, community leaders, facilitators, partners, and stakeholders for a transformative day of mentorship, learning, and inspiration.
The program commenced at 9:00 a.m. with arrivals and registration, followed by an opening prayer led by Pastor Kinza. Formal introductions were guided by Francis Kitana, setting a welcoming tone for the day. The KKP Chairperson officially introduced the KKP team and acknowledged partners and guests present, including representatives from KCB, Equity Bank, SHOFCO, and other development actors. Local leadership was well represented, with attendance by Chief Matheni Sublocation, Francis Kinyamasyo (Area Assistant Chief – Kitise Sublocation), Hon. Sebastian Muli (Area MCA), Shedrack Muia (Ole Mike), and other community leaders.
Purpose and Vision
In his opening remarks, the Chairperson gave an overview of KKP’s mission, highlighting its commitment to youth empowerment, sustainable livelihoods, leadership development, and environmental stewardship. He outlined key objectives of the mentorship day, including nurturing personal growth, exposing youth to career and digital opportunities, and promoting civic responsibility.
The day’s theme, “Unleashing Youth Potential: Grow, Lead, Transform,” framed the discussions and inspired participants to take ownership of their personal and professional journeys.
The meeting was officially opened by Hon. Sebastian Muli, Area MCA, who commended KKP for organizing a timely and impactful forum and encouraged the organization to institutionalize such mentorship programs as regular platforms for shaping the future of young people.
Environmental Action: Honouring Sonia
A key highlight of the program was a Tree Planting Ceremony in honour of Sonia, a passionate environmentalist. Youths, leaders, and facilitators planted edible and shade-providing tree seedlings, reinforcing environmental conservation and climate resilience. The area was officially named “Sonia Farm,” symbolizing legacy, growth, and sustainability.
Mentorship and Learning Sessions
After reassembling, participants were treated to Makueni Mango Juice, courtesy of H.E. Governor Mutula Kilonzo Junior, reaffirming the County Government’s commitment to youth empowerment.
The mentorship sessions were both practical and engaging:
-
Joseph Kioko (Kitise Thinktower) led the session on Personal Growth and Life Skills Development, blending humour with powerful lessons from his academic journey. He addressed self-esteem, discipline, resilience, decision-making, and managing peer pressure—humorously redefining PEERS as “People Encouraging Errors, Rudiness and Stupidity,” a message that resonated strongly with the youth.
-
Paul Mwanza, Director of Pata Kitu Digital Hub, facilitated a dynamic session on Digital Tools as a Source of Income, highlighting online work opportunities, safe use of social media, brand building, and monetization. A live demonstration of digital platforms offered practical insights into earning opportunities in the digital economy.
-
Jeremiah Mutunga, an expert in economics and statistics, concluded the sessions with Career Development and Opportunities, guiding youth on identifying talents, understanding job market trends, CV writing, professional pathways, and the value of mentorship in career growth.
Voices of Encouragement
Additional words of encouragement were shared by Joshua Musyoka, Mr. Jonathan (Founder, Kanesa Foundation), Alfred Mwove, representatives from partner banks, and the Principal of Kitise Secondary School, who delivered a powerful and appreciative message that crowned the day.
Closing and Way Forward
In his closing remarks, the KKP Chairperson extended heartfelt appreciation to all partners, facilitators, leaders, and youths for dedicating their time and resources to make the event a success. Special appreciation went to Kitise Secondary School for providing the venue, the County Government of Makueni for refreshments, SHOFCO, Ishara Hardware, ABSA Bank, KCB, Equity Bank, area administration, the MCA, KKP members, and all mentees.
The meeting was officially closed by Francis Kinyamasyo, Area Assistant Chief, followed by a closing prayer by Pastor Kinza.
Looking Ahead
As a way forward, KKP committed to organizing similar mentorship forums every school holiday or at least twice a year, ensuring continuous engagement, guidance, and empowerment of young people.
Through this programme, KKP reaffirmed its belief that when youth are mentored, empowered, and inspired, communities are transformed.
