Building an Empowered and Accountable Community in Makueni County
PTD Kenya applauds ActionAid Kenya’s decade-long impact in empowering Makueni communities and calls for stronger collaboration and synergy to sustain inclusive, community-led development.
Farmers in Kibwezi and Kathonzweni prepare their fields ahead of the short rains, embracing drought-tolerant crops like millet, sorghum, and cowpeas for a food-secure season. Supported by Makueni County’s agricultural officers, the community is turning climate challenges into opportunities for sustainable farming.
Makueni County continues to face severe water scarcity, with Kitise–Kithuki Ward among the hardest hit, threatening food security and livelihoods. PTD Kenya calls on WOWASCO and partners to act urgently to expand access to clean water, a key pillar for sustainable development and community resilience.
CWSHI, in partnership with PTD Kenya, empowered over 1,700 pupils and teachers at Unoa Comprehensive School through a practical waste management and climate education program, equipping them with tools and knowledge for a cleaner environment. The initiative, led by Ruth Maingi and Joseph Kioko, marked a major step toward sustainable waste practices and climate resilience in Makueni County.
