What we do
Climate Change
Climate change threatens people’s lives and livelihoods, the survival of species, and the integrity of ecosystems all over the world. But Nature-based Solutions that protect and restore ecosystems absorb carbon dioxide and help shield communities from the effects of climate change. Investing in the conservation, restoration and sustainable management of nature can provide around a third of climate mitigation needed by 2030.
Freshwater and Water Security
People’s lives and livelihoods depend on access to water. We have long overstretched this precious resource, with freshwater ecosystems disappearing three times faster than forests, and many countries now facing water shortages. The world must equitably and sustainably manage water to provide for a growing human population, to protect life on land and in freshwater ecosystems, and to mitigate the impacts of climate change.
Mainstream Advocacy
PTD continues to work on a wide range of advocacy issues in Makueni County, often policies in place are in direct contradiction to the efforts to preserve and protect critical forest watersheds. PTD identifies key policy issues to develop advocacy campaigns. Such campaigns would facilitate successful implementation of programs.
Tree Planting
“If you destroy the forest then the river will stop flowing, the rains will become irregular, the crops will fail and you will die of hunger and starvation.” Professor Wangari Maathai.
PTD plant trees on public lands with institutions such as faith based groups, schools, and has a partnership with several institutions to help access remote areas for planting and tree planting on diffeent areas in Makueni County.
Good Governance
PTD’s rationale in safeguarding the civic space emanates from the challenges that many Civil Society Organizations (CSO’s) experience in the area of civil society sustainability which ultimately impacts on the sector’s relevance and credibility overall. PTD has been at the forefront of spurring action on the civil society sector’s sustainability as well as the legal framework that govern their work and operations.
How we work
Discussion
We organize Focused Group Discussions (FGDs) to discuss pertinent issues raised during different trainins conducted by PTD.
Strategy
Our strategic plan contain long-term strategies on how to achieve all the objectives set.
Implementation
PTD use different strategies to put it's plan into task. We believe our plan is only as valuable as the implementation.
Results
For an organization to achieve best results, it should lay down good plans and hire staffs who are self motivated and competent. This ensures the outcomes are of benefit to the community.
Support
Due to economic challenge faced in the current society, we lobby for support from different actors in the country and the world at large.
